The Ocean Cleanup

The Ocean Cleanup is an ambitious non-profit organisation with a mission to rid the world's oceans of plastic. Founded in 2013 by Boyan Slat, the organisation is developing and deploying advanced technologies to remove plastic from the ocean while preventing more from entering.

Their strategy combines two key approaches: intercepting plastic in rivers, which are the primary sources of ocean pollution, and cleaning up what has already accumulated in vast garbage patches at sea. By targeting these major pollution pathways, The Ocean Cleanup is working to achieve large-scale environmental impact.

Their goal is to clean up 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040. Driven by innovation and science, their mantra is simple yet powerful: "When the oceans are clean, we can put ourselves out of business."

The Blue Marine Foundation

The Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is a UK-based conservation charity dedicated to restoring the health of our oceans. Established in 2010, BLUE addresses one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time - overfishing. By creating marine protected areas, restoring critical habitats, and promoting sustainable fishing practices, BLUE is working to ensure at least 30% of the world’s oceans are effectively protected and the entire ocean sustainably managed by 2030.

BLUE’s mission is clear: A healthy ocean for a thriving planet.

Through innovative projects such as the Solent Seascape Project, which restores vital seagrass meadows and saltmarshes, BLUE is leading the charge in large-scale marine conservation efforts. From supporting coastal communities to driving international policy change, BLUE is committed to safeguarding our oceans for future generations.
