From Ocean to Earth – A Challenge for Change
Turning the Tide on Plastic Pollution
A single plastic bottle. A discarded fishing net. A tangle of microplastics washed up on the shore. These may seem like small, isolated pieces of waste, but together, they form an environmental catastrophe choking our oceans and threatening marine life. This is not a distant problem, it is happening now, in every ocean, on every coastline, and in every river that feeds into them.
At Call to Earth, we are not just rowing across the Atlantic for the challenge, we are rowing for change. Our mission is to raise awareness, drive action, and support vital initiatives that are fighting to restore ocean health. That’s why we are proudly supporting The Ocean Cleanup and The Blue Marine Foundation, two organisations making a tangible difference in the battle against plastic pollution and ocean degradation.
The images you see here is Stacey Rivers on a beach in the Dominican Republic, collecting plastic waste. This isn’t just an isolated effort, it’s a stark reminder of the scale of the crisis. Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter our oceans, breaking down into microplastics that contaminate marine ecosystems, threaten biodiversity, and even infiltrate the food we eat.
The Devastating Impact of Plastic on Our Oceans
Marine Life Under Threat: Sea turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish. Seabirds feed plastic fragments to their chicks. Whales and dolphins become entangled in ghost fishing gear, suffering slow and painful deaths. Plastic is a silent killer, suffocating marine ecosystems that have thrived for millions of years.
A Toxic Legacy: Plastic never truly disappears, it just breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces. These microplastics absorb toxins and make their way into the food chain, impacting everything from tiny plankton to top predators—and ultimately, us.
Rivers as Highways of Pollution: 80% of ocean plastic comes from rivers. What starts as waste discarded on land finds its way into streams and waterways, eventually flowing into the sea. The problem begins on our streets, but its consequences are felt across the globe.
Rowing for a Cleaner Future
As we prepare to row across the Atlantic at the end of 2025, we carry with us the urgency of this crisis. Call to Earth: From Ocean to Earth – A Challenge for Change is more than a rowing campaign it is a call to action.
We are raising funds to support The Ocean Cleanup, whose technology is actively removing plastic from our oceans and stopping pollution at its source by intercepting waste in rivers. We are also supporting The Blue Marine Foundation, which is restoring marine habitats, protecting biodiversity, and advocating for sustainable ocean policies.
How You Can Help
Support Our Row: Every mile we row brings us closer to a cleaner ocean. Your support can help us raise the funds needed for these critical initiatives
Reduce Your Plastic Footprint: Simple changes, reusable bottles, avoiding single-use plastics, and responsible recycling CAN ALL make a huge difference
Raise Awareness: Share this message. Talk about the problem. The more voices we have, the louder our impact will be
The ocean gives us life. Now, it’s our turn to protect it. Join us in this fight because every action, no matter how small, has the power to create change.
